Companies House & HMRC to End Joint Filing

The joint online filing service for company accounts and tax returns will close on 31 March 2026. Businesses will need to adjust their filing processes to stay compliant. Companies could file accounts and tax returns simultaneously with HMRC and Companies House. A single service allowed streamlined submissions without needing separate software.

From 1 April 2026, companies will no longer be able to use the joint filing service. Company accounts must be filed using third-party software, web services, or paper filing with Companies House. Company Tax Returns must be filed via software only. Paper or web submissions will not be accepted. Past filings from the joint service will no longer be accessible after 1 April 2026. It is recommended that businesses should download and save at least three years of filings.

📌 What to Do Now?

  • Transition to software-based filing.
  • Download and save at least three years of filings.
  • Ensure your accountant is ready with the right software.

This shift represents both a compliance requirement and an opportunity for businesses to streamline financial reporting. Is your company ready for the change?
